About Me:
I am a junior at Connecticut College with interests in youth mentorship, social justice, violence prevention, and hip-hop arts for educational and therapeutic purposes. As an American Studies major and a Human Development minor, I have taken classes in the social sciences, arts and humanities. Additionally, I was selected to participate in the college's Community Action and Public Policy Certificate Program. My coursework, combined with campus and community leadership positions and volunteer work, has enabled me to build my skills in media literacy, writing, research, public speaking, group organizing and facilitation, and interdisciplinary thinking and problem solving. This has prepared me to be an effective community leader, youth mentor, anti-oppression educator, and advocate for the disenfranchised.

My related experience includes leading workshops, classes, and group discussions on hip-hop, anti-oppression, non-violence, peace making, and human rights in public and private schools. It also includes work at conferences, camps, and after school programs for youth, adolescents and young adults, and at shelters for the homeless and/or those fleeing domestic abuse.

I believe that hip-hop is too often blamed for creating or perpetuating violence and negativity, and am committed to instead, cultivating it as a tool for positive social change.
