hi amina,
i come from Europe too...from Italy, and the racism here is rife, institutional racism is legitimized, we even have a xenophobic party in government.
recently there have even been pogroms against members of an ethnic minority - the roma (gipsy) people- with the politicians blaming the victims....
i have two kids who are black. i hate having to send them to school where they are not represented in the books they use, or in the play material...
where they never see any black face in a position of authority....
i desperately tried to find multicultural children picture's book in Italian....and i was horrified, the only i could find with non-white children in it , still portray african kids naked living in huts!
In a book about "multiculture education" it actually states , i quote, that "In africa kids don't usually wear clothes and in the evening sit around the fire listening to stories"....
can you believe it?

How it arcs through the air like a brick through the window of a mosque
Whispers, shouts, chants, insults
Stands in the way, won’t let you pass
Sings so high it shatters glass

Racism taunts, bears arms
Passes down the chain of command
Like an order being followed
Racism hides, disguised
Lingers longer than a kiss

Racism lurks in doorways
sneaks down alleys,
and under doors, like zyklon B
easy to miss
if you don’t recognize the hi… Continue
